fASHION IN THE 60's
Through the 60's there were tons of different trends. In the early 60's, young people were the people that made the trends. There was a young group called "The mods and rockers". The women wore styles that included short skirts, tall colored boots, and tight tunics. The men dressed more if a rock style using famous peoples influence. Then women started to wear suits with boxy jackets. The suits were not like the boring black, blue gray Men suit, but more colorful and fun. For evening wear women usually dressed up in full skirted/dresses. When they wanted to dress casual, capri trousers were they way to go. Stiletto heels came out and were very popular.
In the mid 60's, designer Mary Quant introduced the mini skirt. By then every girl pushed away their long skirts and every stylish girl was wearing the mini skirt. French designer, Andre Courreges, came up with the "space look" which included suits, white boots, goggles, and box-shaped dresses. The most influential group of people were the British. The Mods (Modernists) mostly influenced the young people population. The "rockers" group mimicked the rock-and roll look. This look consisted of black leather jackets, greased hairstyles and rode motorbikes. The mods were more of the "classy" look, they mimicked clothing and hairstyles of high fashion in France and Italy. By 1966, the space look was replaced by the Edwardian Era (double-breasted suits of velvet or striped patterns, brocade waistcoats, shirts with frilled collar and their hair below the collar bone). Other than that, Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, Colleen Corby and Penelope tree were models that women inspired to dress like. They dressed mostly in mini dresses that had lace-collars and matching cuffs, and wide tent dresses.Hemlines kept rising and soon it was up to the mid-thigh. Then the "micro-mini" dress came out. By 1964, bell-bottomed jeans came out as the alternative for capris. Foot wear mostly consisted of white go-go boots, low heeled sandals and kitten-heeled pumps.
