vietnam war
The Vietnam War was made up of "symptoms, components and consequences of the cold war". In the 1960's the U.S. involvement increased dramatically. The amount of U.S. troops tripled by 1961 and then again in the following year. In 1964 the Gulf of Tonkin incident was the big incident the U.S. involved themselves. "A U.S. destroyer clashed with North Vietnamese fast attack craft...which gave the U.S. president authorization to increase U.S. military presence". In 1968, when the communist side launched the Tet Offensive, which was one of the largest military campaigns of the Vietnam war, U.S. involvement peaked.
